Boy Scouts of America Troop 195 is a group of Boy Scouts ages 11-18 located in Glen Head, New York. We are chartered by BSA Theodore Roosevelt Council of Nassau County, with American Legion Post 336 being the troop’s chartering organization in our local community. The troop meets at the Glen Head Community Center on Friday nights at 8 PM.
We are Troop 195 of the Boy Scouts of America – and we are all about adventure, exploring the great outdoors, building leadership skills, and having FUN doing it!
We are a group of young men ages 11-18 that get together to camp, hike, canoe, ski, pursue advancement in Scouting and support each other in growing from boys to young men. Scouts in Troop 195 become self-dependent while also learning how to be a team player that others can depend on and trust. As you progress through the troop, pursuing exciting adventures, you take on increasing responsibility for a patrol of younger boys and the overall leadership of the whole troop. It’s an exciting journey!
We go camping once a month at state and local parks within the tri-state area. We spend one week during the summer at Onteora Scout Camp in Livingston Manor, New York and another week of High Adventure that entails canoeing and hiking in the great outdoors of the northeastern United States. Our troop year also includes numerous activities including rock climbing, ice skating, swimming, and presentations by the troop’s leadership and our alumni on topics such as first aid, emergency preparedness, camping, hiking, fire-building, cooking, backpacking, wilderness survival and healthy living.
If you want to join Troop 195, come down to the Glen Head Community Center at 8 PM on Friday nights and see what opportunity awaits you. If you are interested in learning more, please come down and visit our Troop in action. We look forward to sharing our experiences and creating new experiences based on your ideas in action!
As a part of this community for well over fifty years, our troop has a long history and proud legacy that continues to provide an opportunity for your children to have a life-changing experience. Troop 195 of the Boy Scouts of America offers an environment of fun, adventure, responsibility, growth, accomplishment and more! Our agenda is packed with events that will thoroughly entertain your son(s) while teaching critical skills and disciplines that they will possess and utilize throughout their lives.
We meet every Friday night at 8 PM during the school year at the Glen Head Community Center on Glen Head Road (except during school vacations). We go camping once a month at various state and local parks within the tri-state area. We spend one week during the summer at Onteora Scout Camp in Livingston Manor, New York and another week canoeing and hiking somewhere in the outdoors of New England. Our schedule also includes numerous activities including rock climbing, ice skating, swim night, bowling and various presentations by the Troop’s leadership and our alumni on topics such as first aid, emergency preparedness, camping, hiking, fire-building, cooking, backpacking, wilderness survival and healthy living.
Through such events and skill-building activities, the members of our Troop are continually learning to be responsible, gaining confidence and developing into productive young men that possess teamwork and leadership abilities, appreciate nature, respect the environment and contribute to our communities.
A testament to what Troop 195 has accomplished in its fifty plus years of existence is that we have fostered the development of over sixty Eagle Scouts (Scouting’s highest achievement). Your son may be one of the future Eagles that ascends through the ranks of Troop 195 and becomes part of continuing our proud tradition.
